Mahjong Etiquette
Good Mahjong etiquette helps create a welcoming, enjoyable game for everyone.
Speak clearly when naming discarded tiles and place each discard where everyone can see it. Keep the pace moving, but remain patient with new players. Avoid commenting on another player’s hand or offering advice unless it is requested.
Rack a drawn tile before discarding so other players know the previous discard is no longer available. When calling a tile, clearly state your intention and place the completed exposure on top of your rack.
Before mixing or throwing in tiles, pause while a declared Mahjong is verified. Most importantly, establish table rules before beginning and treat every player with patience and respect.
