Mahjong Joker Rules
Jokers are wild tiles, but they cannot be used everywhere.
Important joker rules include:
Jokers may replace tiles in a pung, kong, quint, sextet, or larger identical grouping.
Jokers cannot be used in pairs.
Jokers cannot be used in Singles and Pairs hands.
A discarded joker cannot be called.
Jokers should not be passed during the Charleston.
An exposed joker may be exchanged for its matching natural tile.
The player exchanging for a joker must use the joker in their own hand.
You may exchange for a joker when it is your turn or when another player has made an exposure.
Understanding joker rules can prevent illegal hands and help you recognize valuable exchange opportunities.
