Mahjong Tile Guide

A standard National Mah Jongg League-style set commonly contains 152 tiles:

  • 36 Craks

  • 36 Bams

  • 36 Dots

  • 16 Winds

  • 12 Dragons

  • 8 Flowers

  • 8 Jokers

Each numbered suit contains four copies of tiles numbered one through nine. There are four copies of each wind and dragon. Flowers and jokers have special rules and do not function like ordinary numbered tiles.

Some sets include additional tiles for other Mahjong styles. Before beginning, confirm that your set contains the correct tiles for the version you plan to play.
