What Is Mahjong?

Mahjong is a tile-based game that combines strategy, observation, decision-making, and a little luck. Four players take turns drawing and discarding tiles while working toward a complete hand.

Different styles of Mahjong use different rules and winning combinations. Mid Mo Mahjong teaches the version played with the annual National Mah Jongg League card. Players select a hand from the card and collect the exact combination of suits, numbers, flowers, winds, dragons, and jokers shown.

A standard set includes numbered tiles in three suits—Craks, Bams, and Dots—along with winds, dragons, flowers, and jokers. Each game begins with 13 tiles, followed by the Charleston and regular play. A player typically needs 14 tiles to declare Mahjong.
